The Forbidden City, a Rickshaw Ride and Peking Duck

The Forbidden City was constructed between 1406-1420 housing over 980 buildings over 180 acres of land!

It was the home of the Emperor and his family and household staff for centuries.
It was lived in by 10 consecutive Emperors from the Ming Dynasty until the Qing Dynasty, 1420 to 1912.

The Ceremonial and Political Centre for over 500 years.

'Roof Charms' located on the roof tops.  The more you had on your roof, the higher your station or importance within the building.  A maximum of 9 was allowed.  During the Emperors reign, only official building where allowed to do this.  In today's China, they can be seen everywhere.

Visited by over 15 million visitors every year.
From monks to school children, and everyone else.

Preparing for a Rickshaw ride through the narrow streets.

A traditional home that is opened for visitors to see how the 'real' Chinese families live.  Small but with a beautiful courtyard in the centre.  Much is done to maintain a Feng shui throughout the home.

It was surprising to me that duck was served at many meals.  I love duck....sorry Daffy but I do.  Usually quite fatty but I don't eat it often enough to worry about that.  But the duck served to us didn't have the fat when served.  Delicious.
Peking Duck....love it.

Another amazing day....22,000 steps on my Fit bit.......exhausted but thrilled with all we are seeing and doing.
