The Three Gorges Dam, which we visited along our journey was quite remarkable. The financial cost to build it was 37 billion dollars...give or take a few.
But as much as it did help with the decrease of flooding down stream and increase of the Yangtze shipping capacity to help economically.....it also displaced 1.3 million people. Some archeological and cultural sites were also flooded. Landslides are also a serious affect as a result of the dam.
The ship locks and lifts. Our ship went into the locks and out into the Yangtze at the top after 4 hours.
